Airport Workforce Programs Supporting Employee Well-Being

This report compiles how airports and their employees are currently using employee well-being programs to benefit operations and reduce employee stress. Airport employee well-being focuses on the whole person and has multiple components, including physical, psychological/mental, social, and financial well-being. To address these different components of employee well-being, airports use varying well-being program offerings. Benefits airports receive to their operations include reduced health care costs; improved productivity; decreased absenteeism; and improved employee recruitment, retention, and camaraderie and teamwork among employees. Information was collected through a literature review and a survey of 22 airport human resources and employee wellness staff from a range of airport hub sizes across the United States. The synthesis report also includes case examples that describe how five airports have implemented specific employee well-being offerings.
