AN ANALYSIS OF THE LONG DISTANCE BUS INDUSTRY IN QUEENSLAND

This paper was presented at session 5: regulation versus competition in the eighties. It reviews the role of long distance bus service Queensland by a comparative analysis with rail and to a lesser extent air services. The systems are compared by a review of route coverage, journey times, service frequency and fares. The characteristics of the bus industry are discussed and a profile of existing passengers and their trips is presented. This review sets the scene for discussion of the future role of the long distance bus industry (a). (TRRL)
