ANALYSIS, MODIFICATION AND TEST OF INSTRUMENT LANDING SYSTEM GLIDE SLOPE WAVEGUIDE ANTENNA
Investigative techniques were developed and used to develop and evaluate glide slope techniques for problem site conditions. These techniques were used to serve as a basis for developing and evaluating modification of the 60 foot waveguide array and the reduced aperture array and for evaluation of the Redlich array. Evaluation of the antenna was carried out in terms of a digital modeling of this performance as measured by computed characteristics equivalent to those normally taken for commissioning, i.e., level flight and structures. Synthesis was used to develop patterns for a reduced aperture array. Criteria were a minimum width lower SBO lobe with suppressed radiation below the lower SBO lobe to at least 15 degrees. Compensating elements for sidelobe cancellation were designed, tested and installed at each end of the 60 foot waveguide antenna. A series of radiation pattern tests under various antenna operating conditions were performed. (Modified author abstract)
