INFLUENCE OF Y-ROPES ON THE STATIC FLEXIBILITIES OF CATENARIES
EINFLUSS DER Y-SEILE AUF DIE STATISCHEN FLEXIBILITAETEN VON FAHRLEITUNGEN
In the analysis or computer-aided design of catenary chains, only the vertical movements are considered whereas horizontal motion of rope elements are usually ignored. Such approximation is valid only for certain cases, but is unsatisfactory for catenaries of the West German railroads, or similar systems, where so-called Y-ropes are being used. An attempt is made to improve the analysis so that more realistic results are obtained. The determination of forces at the end of a heavy rope and for other given conditions is considered. An illustrative example is included.
