CATHODIC PROTECTION FROM CORROSION IN CONCRETE BRIDGE DECKS
A number of reinforced and prestressed concrete bridges in India experience spalling and cracking of concrete due to corrosion of steel. In spite of the annual maintenance of such bridges, no worthwhile solution to combat corrosion is being tried at present. Cathodic protection of steel has been successfully employed in some foreign countries to check the deterioration of concrete bridges due to corrosion. This paper deals with the preventive measures and its advantages in adopting this technique to concrete bridges located in the coastal regions of india.(a) (TRRL)
