DRUGS AND BEHAVIOUR OF DRIVERS

AUSWIRKUNGEN VON GROGEN AUF DAS VERHALTEN VON MOTORFAHRZUEGFUHRERN. EIN GUTACHTEN FUR DASSCHWIZERISCHE BUNDESGERICHT VOM 7 APRIL 1978

The Swiss Federal Court commissioned the University (Psychiat. Univ Klin., Basel) to produce an expert report. The report's task was to study the effect of drug use on driving behavior. The following questions were considered. What are, in a general way of speaking, the effects of the drug on the driver's behavior? Do these differ with different drugs used? Do these effects simultaneously depend on factors such as age, state of health, character, alcohol absorption, degree of being used to drug taking? Do these effects increase accident risks? Does the state of dependence of an individual to a drug justify an unfavorable diagnosis as regards his driving behavior? How can the degree of intoxication due to the drug be determined? Apart from the clinical examination and urine analysis are there other methods which prove the person is under influence of a drug at a given moment (in analogy with a blood sample to determine alcoholemia)? The article deals with substances mentioned in the Federal Drug and Opiates Act. 1.7. 1975. (A)
