ENERGY CONTINGENCY PLAN ON TRANSPORTATION FOR THE LAFAYETTE METROPOLITAN AREA

A contingency plan is presented for the movement of goods and people in the event of a major petroleum energy shortage in the Lafayette area. The plan will assure a means of transportation by which every worker can reach his/her place of employment. The plan will emphasize the development and use of alternative transportation modes. The plan will also seek to assure that the existing transit and paratransit systems will be utilized to their maximum and that these systems will continue operations as efficiently as possible. Another major objective of the plan is to resolve the anticipated problems of fuel shortage, passenger overloading and unmet transit/paratransit demands. The Lafayette contingency plan focuses on the development of a reserve transit system fleet, incorporation of the school bus fleet into the transit system, coordination of adjustable work schedules by employers, promotion of ridesharing, information distribution, appointment of an emergency energy coordinator, and monitoring gasoline sales and purchases.
