The objectives of the program were to identify and document lifts, ramps, tiedowns/securement systems and other ingress and egress hardware that has been used in the transportation of handicapped passengers - further, to critically evaluate the available hardware to assess its impact on the convenience and safety of the handicapped occupant during operational and crash situations; to compile, analyze and evaluate existing accident data involving handicapped occupants in order to ascertain specific causes of injuries and deaths; and to identify the injury causing hardware and mechanisms.
