THE LASER-DOPPLER VELOCIMETER AND ITS APPLICATION TO THE MEASUREMENT OF TURBULENCE
The paper examines the spatial and temporal resolution of the laser-Doppler velocimeter. Criteria for meaningful measurements are established. The effect of the random phase fluctuations introduced by the Doppler ambiguity on attempts to measure statistical quantities in turbulent flow is examined. An operational laser-Doppler velocimeter is described and measurements in both laminar and turbulent flow are presented.
