PLANNING AND IMPLEMENTATION OF A UNIVERSITY CONSORTIUM FOR TRANSPORTATION RESEARCH IN THE UPPER GREAT LAKES REGION
The report summarizes the results of a year of activity in planning and implementing a consortium of universities in the Upper Great Lakes Region to carry out transportation research. An initial planning meeting in May, 1973 defined six functional areas on which the consortium would focus its attention. These are: (1) Economic analysis/impact; (2) environmental analysis/impact; (3) physical (engineering) research; (4) transportation needs of the aged and handicapped; (5) health care delivery system; and (6) socio-psychological aspects of transportation. A background/resource paper was prepared for each of the six areas to provide a common information base and tentative recommendations for work to be done. These documents served as the basis for two 2-day project development workshops held in September, 1973.
