PERFORMANCE OF CENTRIFUGAL PUMPS IN SLURRY SERVICE
The effect of included solids on the centrifugal pump performance is a major consideration in slurry system design. The theoretical analysis of the losses in the pump passages shows the effect of individual variables involved. The analysis is based on the assumption that the head loss due to the presence of solid particles can be attributed to two additive terms which are the interactions among the particles and between the particles and fluid and the energy expended in maintaining the solids in suspension. The final equation was confirmed by the experimental data from Worthington Laboratory. Some conclusions are drawn and followup research is suggested.
