SOLID AND LIQUID MIXTURE FLOW IN A HORIZONTAL PIPE WITH INTERNAL SPIRAL RIBS (SOME EXPERIMENTAL RESULTS ON FRICTION LOSS)
This report discusses the resultant hydraulic loss of head and observation of flow conditions when a mixture of water and vinyl chloride pellets was made to flow in a horizontal pipe with internal spiral ribs. In general, flow resistance and wear of the pipe wall are two important factors in transport of solids by water through a pipeline. This experiment was conducted to see if the rate of transport could be increased without augmenting the same two factors. It is shown that a pipe with the rib of a proper pitch has an advantage, or smaller loss of head in a certain range of flow velocity, over an ordinary pipe without the rib.
