PULSATING FLOWS--APPLICATIONS TO THE PIPELINE FLOW OF SOLID--LIQUID SUSPENSIONS
The effects of superposed and self-generated oscillations on the flows of Newtonian and non-Newtonian liquids with specific reference to solid-fluid pipeline transport are described. Both symmetric and asymmetric oscillations are discussed in terms of their effect on: (a) time-averaged pressure gradient, and (b) energy changes/unit amount of solids transported. Some current laboratory and industrial applications are described together with potential applications to both horizontal and vertical pipeline transport of particulate solids.
