Development of Low Smell and Low VOC Polyurethane Foam
The purpose of this work is to improve cabin VOC and odor quality and meet China market needs. Polyurethane Foam (PUF) materials is one of the main source of cabin VOC and odor. The authors identified PUF odor compounds as 1) amino compounds from catalyst and 2) aldehydes. Ally ether contained in polyol as impurities convert to aldehydes by acid hydrolysis and they convert to odor compounds 2) by aldol condensation. By 1) using reactive type amino catalyst and 2) reducing impurities of polyol, the authors developed low VOC and smell PUF and improved cabin air quality.
