STUDIES AND TESTS OF LNG BOILOFF DURING TRANSFER AND STORAGE IN LARGE TANKS
Data obtained by Gaz de France from tests at the Le Havre LNG terminal permit improved design of equipment to regulate and recover boiloff formed during tanker unloading or terminal operation. Studies included the effects on the evaporation rate due to pressure, gas composition, liquid level, unloading conditions, and stratification. In practice, the quantity of boiloff depends mainly on variation of pressure in the storage tank on land and in the cargo tanks. It was possible to determine that the boiler recovery units for the Fos terminal needed to be only slightly larger than those at Le Havre, instead of twice as large as thought originally.
