BRAKING MANOEUVRES RELEVANT TO ACCIDENTS

UNFALLRELEVANTE BREMSMANOEVER

Braking manoeuvres in an accident situation are reactions in an extreme situation. The report studies the complex medical/psychological aspects of the driver and the technical relations between reactions in accident situations. It is shown that most drivers react with full braking because this is the only reaction practised by the driver in normal driving. Short spurt braking is only recommended if it has been learned and practised. The only way of utilizing the advantages of short spurt braking is to use anti-locking devices. The advantage of the manoeuvrability obtained in full braking has to be made apparent to the driver so that he utilizes it in a dangerous situation. (TRRL)
