A SIMPLIFIED MODEL FOR A FLUID TRANSMISSION LINE
A simplified model for a fluid transmission line was formulated to analyze the behavior of lines that interact dynamically with other elements in an overall system. Dimensionless simplified partial and ordinary differential equations were derived to describe the flow of a liquid through a cylindrical tube of constant cross section. The initial conditions were taken as those for steady, fully developed laminar flow, and the boundary conditions consisted of a constant pressure source on one end of the line and an actuating valve on the other end. The equations were solved by finite difference approximations in a digital computer program.
