A REPORT ON LNG SAFETY RESEARCH--1
A report on LNG safety research--1, prepared by Arthur D. Little Inc., cities a paucity of data for firm statistical analysis. The risk of transfer line failure tends to be greater than risk of failure of the tank itself. Incidents which could cause leaks, in order of decreasing probability of occurrence, are valve and flange leaks, transfer incidents such as overfill or leaks in transfer system, transport accidents, breaks in in-plant piping, failure of vaporizer tubes, leaks at corner welds or nozzles of storage tank, failure of tank at roof-shell joints, failure of transfer line between tank nozzle and first shutoff valve, and catastrophic failure of tank due to a running crack or collapse of outer shell onto the inner shell.
