Inspection Training Course on Bridge Preventive Maintenance Activities
A recent KTC report and implementation project identified 8 common preventive maintenance (PM) tasks to adopt throughout the state to maintain bridge conditions (bridge washing; cleaning and painting barrier walls; pier caps and abutments; cleaning and lubricating bearings; erosion and sediment control; patching bridge decks, pier caps and columns; resealing and repairing joints; sealing decks and barrier walls; and spot painting). A follow-up KHIT developed special notes for these activities, which state forces and contract workers may use for guidance. To promote and facilitate PM, inspectors, workers, and contract personnel require proper training.
