CO Emission Rate in Relation to Road Density of Different Road Grades and Travel Time in Beijing

Urban road plays a crucial role in traffic emissions. However, little is known about the roles played by the road density of different road grades. In this study, the authors fill this blank by analyzing the impact of the road density on the average travel time and the CO emission rate, and the road grade is considered. The results show a strong linear correlation between the road density of different road grades and travel time, and CO emission rate and travel time are uncorrelation. Besides, the obtained results indicate that correlation coefficients between the density of residential road and the CO emission rate are in very significant difference (P < 0.01), whereas the correlation with the density of expressway and arterial road are insignificant. The authors' findings appeal for an attention of the density of different road grades should be paid in the process of road planning and design.
