Risk Analysis of Transportation Projects in CPEC

In the 21st century, with the consistently deepening process of globalization, regional cooperation has acted as a necessary means of economic development as well as international diplomacy. China-Pakistan economic corridor (CPEC), which is the focus and cornerstone of “one belt and one road” initiated by China in this context, has attracted much attention all over the world. However, the environment in the construction of the corridor is complicated, involving political instability, terrorism, etc., which makes the construction a high-risk activity. This paper focuses on the identification of safety factors that may adversely affect the feasibility of the completion of transport projects involved in CPEC through PESTE. Then, a case study on Peshawar-Karachi motorway (Multan-Sukkur section) is used to complete the step of risk evaluation by weight calculated through analytic hierarchy process (AHP).
