EVALUATION OF PASSIVE BELTS FOR DIFFERENT SIZE OCCUPANTS

Three full-scale crash tests of Volkswagen Rabbit automobiles were performed to evaluate the safety performance of the passive belt restraint system equipped with the vertically adjustable upper belt anchor device. The crash tests included a 30 MPH flat barrier impact and two tests of Rabbits with adjustable belt anchors in full frontal and 50 percent offset car-to-car impacts with identical, baseline Rabbit automobiles at a closing speed of 60 MPH. Satisfactory performance of the adjustable anchor device was demonstrated in the tests.
