Estimation of Link & Turn Volumes in Transportation Networks Using Bluetooth and Wi-Fi Source Data
This paper analyzes the accuracy of different data collection methods for monitoring link and turn volumes at intersections in Tehran, Iran. Portable Wi-Fi and Bluetooth sensors were designed for this study. They were used to track the turning movements of vehicles at intersections and were validated with simultaneously-captured video data. It was found that the Bluetooth data could provide volume estimates with greater accuracy.
