TANK TEMPERATURE CONTROL SYSTEMS--TOWARDS A REFINED TECHNOLOGY
When buying a tank container, amongst many other considerations, a purchser must choose what sort of heating systems he requires. Normally, his choice will depend principally on the type of cargo the tank will be required to carry, and will probably involve either a steam system, an electric one, or a combination of the two. While a great deal of research has lately been centred on improving the performance of the electrical systems, much development work has also been undertaken by several companies into a new area--the carriage of liquids at sub-zero temperatures. Several models capable of achieving this have already been produced. The article discusses both steam and electric tank heating sytems, tank insulation and the new concept of carrying refrigerated or cryogenic liquids.
