The author gives a brief survey of the platform discussion "the lorry as a place of work" and follows this with a list of ways in which a driver's place of work can be optimised. This includes noise-reduction, operating safety, driving seat, vehicle air-conditioning and the improvement of vehicle radios. Finally it is shown how urgent an improvement in the equipping of the driver's cab has become, since each improvement in the driver's working place leads to improved safety. (TRRL)
