THE STABILITY OF WEST MIDLAND TRANSPORTATION MODEL FUNCTIONS

This paper describes some of the work carried out by the West Midlands County Council to validate its transportation model. This model was originally calibrated to 1964 survey data, and has been used to predict peak-period traffic movements for the years 1971 and 1976. Comparisons have been made of this prediction with available survey data, and some of these are presented in this paper. As it was possible to check model predictions for a period 12 years after the date of data collection, some conclusions can be drawn from this work as to the accuracy of transport models in predicting future traffic movements - given accurate input data.
