Little things mean a lot

Our strategic transport models are on the verge of a new era. The next generation of models in Australia are currently being developed, driven by a desire for models that have wider applications, more behavioural credibility and less baggage than the die-hard four step models. However, we need to change our entire modelling and forecasting system to take advantage of the improvements the new models promise. This paper investigates three things that will mean a lot to the way we model and the forecasts we make using the models. The three little things are full understanding of components of the model, use of multiple diverse models and restoring humans’ important status in the modelling process.
