LOAD TESTS ON SAFDARJUNG FLYOVER
This paper describes the salient features of the load test procedure adopted in checking the structural adequacy of one of the 5 span continuous units of a flyover located in New Delhi. The load test became a pre-requisite for throwing open the flyover to traffic as two spans were restored after the occurrence of a mishap during construction. As the analysis of such a structure is complicated, the limitations imposed in adopting certain methods of analysis are described. Since no standard criteria are evolved for conducting acceptance tests on continuous span bridges, a method mutually agreed upon was followed which had been highlighted therein. (a) (TRRL)
