MUCH ADO ABOUT BARGES

With the advent of the superbarge it would appear that barging has suddenly come of age. However, barging in the United States has always been a big business offering services too varied and numerous to accurately compile. It can be safely stated that there are few areas of industry which do not utilize them to advantage. In the paper, a few types of barges with which the author is familiar, are described, including the problems and successes associated with each type. Also, some general comments are offered applicable to all types of barges.
