Investigate the Availability of Technology to Identify Buried Non-Metallic Pipelines
The purpose of this report is to document the findings of project number 0-4376. For the purpose of this report, the information available from the vendors and scientific literature was reviewed. It was found that technologies are available which can be used to locate and identify non-metallic pipelines. However, technology constraints must be taken into consideration during selection process. CART Imaging System-Written Technologies is recommended as the primary technology, and Smart Cart from Sensors and Software, Canada, or, SIR 2002 with Sub Echo 40 from GeoQuest is recommended as secondary technology. In order to avert damage to underground Utilities during construction and minimize the associated risks to personnel and equipment, it is imperative that a research project should be undertaken to select the state-of-the-art technologies. Using these technologies, utility maps should be prepared for use during planning and execution of new construction projects.
