Operational Cost Models for Regular Bus and Demand Responsive Transit Services

This paper proposes a methodology to evaluate and compare the operational costs of offering regular bus and demand responsive transit (DRT) services. DRT runs on flexible routes and schedules, making it a viable option for situations where transit ridership is low. The authors developed analytical models to estimate operating costs of both regular and DRT services. The study examines a low-demand bus route in Regina, Saskatchewan as an example to demonstrate the applications of the models.
