Summary of AASHTO Resiliency Peer Exchange on Extreme Weather and Climate Impacts, November 6 - 7, 2017, Washington DC
The peer exchange, held on November 6 and 7, 2017, sponsored an assembly of key Department of Transportation (DOT) stakeholders to contribute to an important dialogue on resiliency and assist transportation stakeholders in resolving issues related to extreme weather and sea level rise preparedness, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The meeting also provided practitioners the opportunity to build relationships, share experiences, learn from one another, and hear about the significant work completed over the last few years (independent State DOT studies, the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) pilot program, and work on engineering assessments, among others). Leaders from numerous disciplines came together to address resiliency and establish a dialogue that other efforts would build upon in the future. In total, 60 attendees from 28 states and six agencies/organizations participated.
