Economic and Social Sustainability at Airports

This conference was organized by the Airport Cooperative Research Program (ACRP) of the Transportation Research Board (TRB) as part of its series of Insight Events. The impetus for this topic was the acknowledgment that airports understand and are actively working toward solutions focused on the environmental sphere of sustainability, but can benefit from enhanced support in understanding and overcoming challenges related to the economic and social sides of sustainability. The agenda led off with two plenary sessions, including both a presentation and a discussion among panel members, which focused on social and then economic sustainability. The remainder of the event included two keynote addresses (one focused on the social aspect and one on economics), an open mic for participants to share successes and challenges, and interactive breakout sessions that allowed participants to delve deeper into more specific subtopics within social and economic sustainability, as well as the interaction between the two areas.
