LAYING TECHNIQUE FOR FLOW CONCRETE IN HIGHWAY CONSTRUCTION
EINBAUVERFAHREN FUER FLIESSBETON IM STRASSENBAU
Flow concrete is an advance in concrete technology. Its main characteristic is the improvement of workability, which reduces the need for heavy construction equipment. Suitable concrete plasticizers are used in the production of flow concrete. The slump lies between 51 and 60 cms. Concrete cores demonstrate a high level of homogeneity. The flow concrete flows from the mixer into the formwork, and no contraction must be allowed. Hand operated equipment is adequate for screeding. Pavement finishers with the vibrators switched off may also be used. The addition of plasticizer can within certain limits be adjusted in accordance with the capacity of the screeding equipment. Flow concrete is particularly suitable for slab renewal or longer repair work, where the construction site is so narrow that larger laying plant would extend into the traffic area. (TRRL)
