PROCEDURE FOR TESTING BRAKING ON BENDS

Tests undertaken without a driver and direct comparison of tests with and without drivers pointed to various conclusions. The differences in the handling of the individual vehicle types are the greater, the greater the radius of curvature, the greater the initial transverse acceleration, and the smaller the adhesion to the road. Variable loading affects the handling of the vehicle basically in accordance with the changing braking force distribution. The sideslip angle and the yaw angle rate indicate to the driver earlier and more strongly a rotation of the vehicle about its vertical axis, and the transverse acceleration does this in the same way for the radius of curvature driven. The evaluation of vehicle handling during braking on a bend in relation to the deceleration attained or the braking distance extends to two factors - stability and steerability. The tests with drivers showed a good correlation between the stability criteria and factors still to be defined, derived from frequency analysis, and a good correlation between steerability and average steering angle.
