FOOTBRIDGES AT MILTON KEYNES

A description is given of the design and in situ construction of two footbridges in reinforced concrete each with two post-tensioned cantilevered spans, independent of each other and joined by a special dowel joint. The spans are supported at the abutments and intermediate piers, and seated on laminated rubber bearings. The bridge decks are integral with the side walls which carry the prestressing cables. Details are included of the concrete used and post-tensioning procedure. Granite aggregate cladding panels are fitted and the external rendering is in resin bonded natural stone. (TRRL)
