Maximize Your Pavement Life
This article explores the role of the design phase in keeping pavement costs down. The author focuses on strategies to maximize pavement life in four areas: project planning and the design process; materials selection; designing pavement thicknesses (layers); and adapting to changes in pavement mixtures during construction. The author stresses the importance of differentiating between design life and actual service life of the pavement structure. The article concludes by encouraging readers to attend workshops offered by the Asphalt Institute that address these strategies for maximizing pavement life.
