A method of vehicle positioning using a non-satellite navigation system
The paper discusses shortcomings of the existing vehicle positioning methods and proposes an option of a non-satellite navigation system based on positioning of vehicles equipped with radars reading data from radio frequency identification (RFID) tags located on road signs, traffic lights, light posts and other structures where such tags may be installed. RFID tag coordinates are predetermined, e.g. by their single assignment using any well-known global positioning system or by assignment of coordinates related only to a unique position of tags with respect to intersections and road forks and turnoffs, including those not officially shown on maps.
