TECHNICAL REPORT: SHEAR AT THE INTERFACE OF PRECAST AND IN SITU CONCRETE

This report dealt with the joint surface where a precast concrete unit is connected to other concrete (in situ or precast) to form a composite beam or floor slab. It presents considerations on low and high shear, reinforcement across the interface, propping, type and condition of surface, and reinforcement of in situ concrete. Various aspects of site construction such as preparation of surface, concrete mix, placing and curing of concrete are examined, and methods of checking shearing stresses (ultimate limit state and service limit state) are described. Appendix A contains a translation of Swedish Standard SIS812005: concrete surfaces, determination of surface roughness. Appendix B outlines a test method of defining the shear capacity of a specific surface. (TRRL)
