Speed–Safety Analyses Using Linked National Performance Management Research Data Set (NPMRDS) and SHRP2 Roadway Information Database (RID) Data

The case study documented in this report involves linking the second Strategic Highway Research Program (SHRP2) Roadway Information Database (RID) with the National Performance Management Research Data Set (NPMRDS) and then using the linked data to examine speed and speed–safety relationships. This report includes the following information: An overview of the SHRP2 safety data; An overview of the RID and the NPMRDS; The methodology developed to link the RID with the NPMRDS; Additional data preparation required to conduct analyses using the linked data; A summary of the analyses conducted; A description of the value of the results related to highway safety; and Proposed future research directions.
