Exploring waiting times in public transport through a semi-automated dedicated smartphone app survey
This article examines the effect that public transit wait times has on attracting riders that would otherwise travel by private automobiles. Choice riders (those who have other travel options) are attracted to public transit due to features such as service frequency, reliability, and comfort. Waiting time and travel time are found to be among the most troublesome issues for passengers. Therefore, transit planners must strive to develop a public transit system that meets the demands of passengers, applying careful planning practices to remain within funding limitations and capacity restrictions.
