Electric Vehicle Capitals: Accelerating the Global Transition to Electric Drive
In this briefing the authors analyze the ongoing growth in electric vehicle deployment in the world's most important markets, focusing on passenger vehicles. Twenty-five metropolitan regions around the globe were identified as having the highest sales of electric vehicles. These areas, referred to as electric vehicle capitals, have successfully accelerated the transition to electric vehicles. Though the markets are named for their major cities, the data include their surrounding metropolitan areas. The authors investigate the local policies, infrastructures and urban management solutions that have made these successful initiatives possible. The metropolitan regions are, in China: Beijing, Changsha, Chongqing, Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Qingdao, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Tianjin, Wuhan, and Zhengzhou; in Japan: Kyoto and Tokyo; in Europe: Amsterdam, Bergen, London, Oslo, Paris, Stockholm; in the United States: Los Angeles, New York, San Diego, San Francisco, San Jose, Seattle.
