MIXING OF OIL GRAVEL INTO CEMENT STABILIZATION. A LABORATORY INVESTIGATION

INBLANDNING AV OLJEGRUS VID CEMENTSTABILISERING. EN LABORATORIEUNDERSOKNING

The aim of this laboratory investigation was to map out how different contents of old oil gravel affect the properties of the kind of cement stabilized material that is common in Swedish gravel roads. The measured properties are the compressive strength and the splitting tensile strength. The investigation has been carried out with one content of cement (5%) and two contents of oil gravel (10% and 25%). The splitting tensile strength was determined using the Brazilian test. The results show that the mixing of oil gravel caused a lower compressive strength both at short-time storage (7 days) and after a longer time (28 days). The splitting tensile strength on the other hand was higher at the beginning, with the mixing of oil gravel. The splitting tensile strength increased after that rapidly, for samples without oil gravel, but considerably slower for samples with oil gravel. (TRRL)
