FABRICATION AND SERVICE FACTORS

The committee reports on the following: Damages of ship structures in service, determination of initial imperfections, determination of residual stresses and distortions, influence of initial imperfections of residual stresses on the strength of structural components, the influence of misalignment on fatigue life, structural detail design, assessment of allowable imperfections by reliability analysis, shape imperfections in shell structures, post welding distortion tolerances for stiffened plates in compression, and recommendations for future work.
