INDIVIDUAL PREVENTION
SPECIALE PREVENTIE
A report of a study of the individual preventive effect of the criminal trial and of the serving of a short term of imprisonment, on property offenders, aggressive offenders and traffic offenders is presented. On the basis of this investigation it appears that nothing can be deduced about the meaning of punishment for aims of the penal system other than that of individual prevention, such as general prevention, the appeasement of the feelings of victims and of members of the general public that are aroused by crimes, and the protection of society. It was found that serving an imprisonment of fourteen days or less is adequate as a means to prevent recidivism. (TRRL)
