THE OPTIMAL ACOUSTIC ORIENTATION OF LARGE BLOCKS OF BUILDINGS NEAR HIGHWAYS

AKOESTISCH OPTIMALE ORIENTERING VAN BOUWMASSA'S NABIJ VERKEERSWEGEN

This report presents a broad outline of how blocks of houses and flats on the outskirts of housing estates and the open spaces around them can be so arranged as to limit the amount of noise nuisance to which they are exposed. The report provides information on: (a) the way in which traffic noise penetrates a housing estate situated near a main road - through spaces between the blocks of houses, by reflecting against walls or by deflection; (b) the ways in which it is possible to reduce noise levels by means of measures in the field of town planning and to predict the results of such measures by means of calculations or model research; (C) assessment of the final result.(a) (TRRL)
