SCAFO, A CAD AND CAM INTEGRATED SYSTEM FROM BASIC DESIGN TO ASSEMBLY
The SCAFO system has been developed and implemented at ITALCANTIERI since 1972. In 1976 it was also implemented at CNR. Today 90 percent of the Italian Shipbuilding industry uses this system. It is a computer aid instrument dealing with shipbuilding activities in hull structure drawing, generation, work preparation and fabrication. It has replaced mold loft and production office activities, by integrating them with those of the drawing office. As a CAM system it is provided to define any type of inner structural surface with exact description of plates and profiles scantling. As a CAM system it is provided to generate automatically the production information from work preparation to assembly. In 1978 it was interfaced with the AUTOKON system. The paper includes: history and evolution of the system; basic concepts with reference to the resolution alteration problems; input functions; structures definition and interrelation between them; output functions of various application programs.
