A BASIC TASK PERFORMANCE ASSESSMENT OF ROADWAY LUMINOUS ENVIRONMENTS
The work of Committee TC-3.1 of the International Commission on Illumination (CIE) in recent years has been directed at developing methods for evaluating visual performance aspects of lighting. Although the primary emphasis of the work has been directed at applications in the area of interior lighting, applications in the field of street lighting have also always been intended. The conceptual framework of the methods was first described Report No. 19. The work of the Committee since 1972 has involved refinement and extension of the original methods, intended to make them of increasing usefulness in the two application areas of principle interest. The present report illustrates several methods for evaluating the task performance potential of roadway luminous environments based upon the current status of the Committee's work. Emphasis will be placed upon the methods rather than upon the data used here to illustrate them. (Author) them. (Author)
