BASICS OF CHOOSING COAL HAULAGE EQUIPMENT
As the cost of transportation represents at least one third of the price of coal, it is vital that all aspects involved in the installation of a coal hauling system or the choice of equipment be carefully considered. Once a mine has been geared or designed for one system it will be difficult and costly to change that system in the future. This article discusses the various types of coal hauling equipment, from trucks to belt conveyors to railroads and ships, to slurry pipelines, and gives the reader an overview of various advantages and limitations of each.
