GRAVEL-CEMENT: (2) MANUFACTURE, LAYING AND BEHAVIOUR WHEN YOUNG - STABILIZATION OF GRAVEL WITH A SPECIAL CEMENT WITH A HIGH SLAG CONTENT (FAR)
LES GRAVES-CIMENT: 2) FABRICATION, MISE EN OEUVRE ET COMPORTEMENT AUX JEUNES AGES - TRAITEMENT DES GRAVES PAR UN CIMENT SPECIAL A FORTE TENEUR EN LAITIER (FAR)
As part of the research carried out by cement companies for the development of a cement adapted to roadbase stabilization, a road binder called FAR (Filler Actif Routier - active road filler) consisting of ground slag, anhydrite and clinker was developed. Laboratory and in-situ studies undertaken since 1972 showed the qualities of this binder: progressive hardening, high level of strength, elastic quality index of the order of 20 cm under optimum conditions for a 3,5% proportioning. Some progress remains to be made as regards workability time, in spite of which far can be regarded as a valuable tool in present road construction. (TRRL)
